Effective 2 October 2026
Frenzone shows your friends which city you’re in, and never where in it. This page says what we collect to do that, who can see it, and how to remove it.
Your location
Your phone works out the nearest city itself, from a list of cities stored inside the app. The position it used stays on the phone and is thrown away. What we receive is the city: its name, country, time zone, the coordinates of the city’s centre rounded to about a kilometre, and when you arrived. We never receive your device’s coordinates, and the apps only ask your phone for an approximate position to begin with.
If you allow location in the background, the app sends a new city only when the city changes. You can also pick your city by hand and never grant location access at all.
We keep a history of the cities you’ve stayed in and when. It is visible only to you unless you turn on sharing your timeline in Settings. Trips you plan (a city, dates, and an optional note) are removed once their start date arrives.
Pausing removes your current city from our servers for as long as the pause lasts, and the app sends nothing while it is on.
Everything else we collect
- Your email address and password (stored as a hash), or your Google account’s name and email if you log in with Google.
- Your display name, username, and profile photo, if you add one.
- Who you’re friends with, friend requests, invite links you create, people you’ve blocked, and reports you file.
- Notifications we’ve sent you, and which friends you asked to be alerted about.
- A push notification token for each device you log in on.
- Your Instagram handle, if you link it.
There is no advertising, analytics, or tracking software in the apps or on this site. We don’t sell your data or share it for marketing.
Who can see what
- Your city: people you have accepted as friends. Their friends can also see it, on that friend’s map, unless you turn that off under Sharing in Settings or the friend has turned off showing their friends. Block someone and they can no longer see it.
- Your arrival time and planned trips: only people you have accepted as friends. Remove or block someone and they lose access immediately.
- Your history of past cities: only you, unless you choose to share your timeline with friends.
- Your name, username, photo, and linked Instagram handle: anyone logged in to Frenzone, so that people can find and add you. Nobody who isn’t logged in can see them, except that someone opening your invite link sees your name and username.
- Reports, blocks, and alert settings: never shown to the person they are about. We read reports to act on them.
Linking Instagram
To prove an Instagram account is yours, you send a one-time code to our Instagram account, @frenzone.me, in a direct message. Meta delivers that message to us along with an identifier for the account that sent it. We use it to look up your Instagram username and save that username to your profile. We don’t save the text of the message. If a code is wrong, we keep the sending account’s identifier and the time, to stop guessing. The message itself stays in the Instagram conversation like any other message you send. You can unlink your handle in the app at any time.
Companies that handle data for us
- Supabase stores the database, logins, and profile photos.
- Vercel hosts this website.
- Apple and Google deliver push notifications. A notification can contain a friend’s name and city.
- Meta, only if you link Instagram, as described above.
- Map images are loaded from Apple (iPhone), CARTO and OpenStreetMap (Android and web), and NASA (the night map). They see a request for map images from your device, not who you are or where your friends are.
Deleting your data
In the app, go to Me, then Settings, then Delete account. This permanently deletes your account, profile and photo, current city, history, trips, friendships, notifications, and device tokens, straight away. You can also email us from the address on your account and we’ll delete it for you, or send you a copy of what we hold.
Until you delete your account, we keep your data for as long as the account exists.
Children
Frenzone is not meant for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their data.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we’ll say so in the app before it takes effect. Questions and requests go to privacy@frenzone.me.
